What it's all about
My idea is to have a group which aims to educate young people about the different religions, cultures and traditions present in the multicultural community of Birmingham. I want this to be done through social meetings, games, visits to local religious places or community centres, testimonies and presentations from respected lecturers, leaders, experts and/or activists about their viewpoints/beliefs. I want it to be a neutral ground where participants would be able to increase their knowledge and wisdom about each other and to find out their differences in a peaceful and respectable way. Furthermore, I would like the meetings to serve as an opportunity to celebrate each others cultures and as a networking platform so that they may work together to do greater good in society.

I am calling young people aged 16-25 who have strong conviction in the role that religion plays in achieving a peaceful society. We may all hold different beliefs but fundamentally, I know most religions believe in the importance of love and living for others - you don't even have to be religious to believe in that. In that sense, I also encourage those who are atheists to join. With no exception, all of us would benefit in understanding each other's customs and traditions. Furthermore, I also invite those who are still 'searching' for their faith as there will be a lot of opportunities to explore and meet people who already follow certain principles.
I need a venue. I am thinking of basing it in Aston University where I study but open it for the whole Birmingham community. So potentially, if the Aston University faculty is willing, I am thinking of making this an Aston University outreach project.

Welcome to Junction49. I'm Sarah from the Junction49 team here to support you in setting up your project.
What you aim to achieve from this idea is absolutely spot on and creating awareness about different religions and cultures is really important, especially in a multi-cultural community such as Birmingham. Basing it within Aston University is a really good place to start and I've just had a quick look on the Union website which has a few different faith based societies which you could get in contact to see if they would be willing to get involved and do some talks or activities etc... for your group. You can find out more here: http://www.astonguild.org.uk/clubsandsocs/content/758713/. You could even create your own union society if you wanted to.
You could also contact the volunteering section of the university to see if they can support you in setting up your group, recruiting volunteers to get involved and support you in outreach to the local community: http://www1.aston.ac.uk/current-students/get-involved/volunteering/
You could maybe consider doing some outreach to local schools - it looks like their volunteer department may do some of that already so could tap into their contacts.
To find a venue to hold your group, if you didn't want to use a university room you should check out www.somewhereto.com which supports 16-25 year olds to find the space they need to do the things they want.
Also, if you think you're going to need funding to promote the group and run activities, let me know as there are a number of funds that you would be eligible to apply for.
I hope that helps to get you started, if you have any questions at all or need any help just get in touch - always happy to help.
