  • Avatar Sarah 13:56, 20 February 2012 J49 Team Hello Sarah,

Welcome to Junction49. I'm Sarah from the Junction49 team here to support you in getting your project all set up.

Ideas are like this are becoming more and more popular on Junction49 and it's clear that there is a lot more support that is needed out there for young people who suffer from anxiety and depression. Just to be clear, is it an event that you are looking to set up or a website for young people to get support?

There's a website that another Junction49er set up to support students with mental health illness and has information about different types of mental illness. It might be worth getting in touch with Amy who set it up to see if she could offer any advice to you in getting your project up and running: http://www.junction49.co.uk/idea/2116/smile_-_student_mental_illness_lifeline/ (There's a link to her website in the idea description)

There are also some other ideas on Junction49 along similar lines which you might want to check out or get in touch with:

    You're Important - http://www.junction49.co.uk/idea/2908/you_re_important/

MIND 2 HELP UK - http://www.junction49.co.uk/idea/2900/mind_2_help_uk/ (you could collaborate on this project together, or do something similar where you live. Denise wants to create a magazine and a community group for young people with mental health problems)

    Sunshine after the rain: http://www.junction49.co.uk/idea/2796/sunshine_after_the_rain/

    Filling an empty space: http://www.junction49.co.uk/idea/2798/filling_an_empty_space/

To get an event up and running you could get in contact with your local Children and Adolescent Mental Health Service to see if they would be willing to support you and maybe even help with finding a speaker. Or you could get in contact with Young Minds (http://www.youngminds.org.uk/) and Rethink (http://www.rethink.org/young_people/index.html) who are two national mental health charities. They do lots of work with schools and young people and you could find out if there's a way you could tie in running an event for what they do already.

To find a venue you could run it in a local school potentially or if you would like to find somewhere a bit different check out www.somewhereto.com. They support young people aged 16-25 to find the space they need to do the things they love and it's all for free.

You can also apply for funding to cover the cost of putting on an event such as for advertisement. Before you start to think about funding you'll need to have a clear idea of what you want to do with your idea i.e. do you want to create an online resource? Do you want to set up an event locally? Do you want to do both? Do you want to tie in with what other groups might be doing locally, if they do anything locally? Or maybe you'd like to do something completely different?

I realise that I've bombarded you with quite a lot of information in this post, so let me know if you're thinking about applying for funding and I can send you some links to available funds.

I hope that helps to get started. If you have any questions about anything I've posted or have questions about setting up the project, just get in touch. Always happy to help.

    Sarah

I just wanted to check in to see how things were going and whether you had been able to progress any further with your idea?

If you need anything, just give me a shout.
