  • Avatar Sarah 15:55, 16 April 2012 J49 Team Hello Joanna,

Welcome to Junction49. Great to see your idea up here. I honestly believe that this is a fantastic project and one which is so greatly needed. Having read your diary, I am really sorry to hear that you haven't had much response yet from schools in the area. Having run projects in schools in the past, I can understand how frustrating it is to try and get in contact with them. Have you tried contacting the Extended Schools Coordinator if one exists? They may be more better placed to help, particularly when you come to setting up the support groups etc...

In terms of venue space for your meetings have you heard of somewhereto_? They provide support to young people who need space to do the things they want and it's all free. There is a widget you can use in our 'Resources' section of the website. If you can't find anything in your local area, you can contact your regional coordinator directly via www.somewhereto.com and they'll be able to help.

For funding, I'm confident that you would be able to receive some money to help bring this project to life.

There are a few different funds you can apply to:

    -vInspired Cashpoint www.vinspired.com/cashpoint
They provide up to £500 funding to 14-25 year olds to set up projects that make a difference.

    - O2 Think Big http://www.o2thinkbig.co.uk/
Awards of up to £2500 for your project, given in stages, for projects to improve the community. This is open to 13-25 year olds. In the first round you can apply for £300 and then after you've completed that part of the project you might get invited to apply for £2500.

    - Live UnLtd http://www.liveunltd.com/
Live UnLtd will give up to £5,000 of funding and all the support needed to turn a great idea into a reality. Open to 11-21 yr olds.

If you need any help at all with funding just let me know. Depending on the funder you won't necessarily need a separate bank account so don't let that put you off applying straight away.

I tweeted about your survey and posted it on Facebook too so hopefully you will get some more people adding to it. I got lots of retweets from it :-) so I hope that means people will start answering it. Have you tried contacting organisations via Twitter asking them to complete the survey. You could send tweets to Time to Change, Rethink, Mind and Young Minds as they're all mental health related charities.

Mental health related projects are really popular on Junction49 with lots of young people wanting to set up support groups and raise awareness. Here's a link to a few. You can comment on them to see if they can share any advice or they may also be interested in taking your survey.

Another idea which is trying to get in touch with schools, but with the focus being on bullying is 'Stand Up'. There may be a way you could help eachother. Here's the link to the idea: http://www.junction49.co.uk/idea/2971/stand-up/

I'm away for a couple of weeks, but when I'm back I'll get on and help to promote it further and write a latest news post on our homepage about it too as I really believe that projects like this are just crying out to exist and more needs to be done to make sure that they do exist! I know you're having some difficulty getting people to help at the moment but I'm sure your perseverance will pay off! In the meantime, any advice you need comment on here and Nirja, who also works on Junction49 will be able to help.

I look forward to speaking to you soon,

    Sarah

  • Avatar Sarah 11:18, 01 May 2012 J49 Team Hey Joanna,

How is everything going with your project? I retweeted your survey request again yesterday so hopefully you'll have had a few more people filling it in. How many people are you hoping to fill it in altogether?

Am I right in thinking you had a volunteer meeting last week about the project? How did it go?

I'm going to write a 'Latest News' post to go on the homepage with a link to the survey too. If there's anything you would like me to include let me know.

If there's anything that I can do to help, please do just get in contact.

  • Avatar Sarah 10:00, 14 May 2012 J49 Team Hey Joanna,

That's great to hear you've had so many responses. Hopefully you'll get the remaining 130 in no time. Have you started to analyse the results yet or are you going to do it all in one go?

If there is anything I can do to help, just let me know.

  • Avatar Sarah 09:07, 29 May 2012 J49 Team Hey Jo,

Just watched your video, looks great. I also added it to the 'Videos' section of your idea, I hope that's ok. You can always remove it if you want to.

I read your blog when it was posted on the vInspired website and thought it was brilliant and very well written. I hope it will be a source of inspiration with lots of others out there.

I hope the surveys have nearly all been filled out. Best of luck for the next stage of the project and of course let me know if there is anything I can do to help.

  • Avatar Sarah 13:41, 18 June 2012 J49 Team Hi Jo,

Sounds like you've had a busy but really successful few days. Really pleased to hear everything is going so well. Report wise not sure about copyrighting stuff, but just thought of another charity you could speak to about the report. They're really new to Twitter, but very friendly so worth making contact: @MHRUKCharity

You may have heard about this already, but I just found out about this mental health network that has been set up by Ruby Wax which may be of interest: http://www.blackdogtribe.com/

  • Avatar Sarah 12:36, 06 July 2012 J49 Team Hi Jo,

That's a shame about your laptop, but at least it's getting fixed. Really pleased to hear the social groups are going well and happening regularly. It sounds like you've got a good number of people going. How are you finding them?

I wouldn't worry too much about getting a celebrity to support, that can be really difficult. Although, have you heard about the new #Reverse Riots campaign, vInspired are running? If you upload a photo to the website and tweet a celebrity involved in the campaign you would be in with a chance of being their profile picture next month. You can find out more here: http://vinspired.com/dosomething

That's annoying about O2 funding, but great news about the person who is going to fundraise for you. That should be a decent steady income for Mind the Gap. Have you applied for vInspired Cashpoint?

  • Avatar Sarah 11:11, 31 July 2012 J49 Team Hello Jo,

How is everything going? Great to see from Facebook that you're having lots of regular meetings. It looks like the project is all going really well.

I just got sent an email about a DVD that some young people produced about mental health and I thought I would pass on some of the details to you incase it's of interest to your project at all. http://peerproductions.co.uk/2012/04/26/the-mental-health-project-dvd/

    I hope all is well.
