What it's all about

Within the country the first time the majority of people come into contact with American Football is through universities, we would therefore like to go around some local schools and run an after school club focussing on the youth version of the sport with the premise of creating a flag team within Leicester. Flag football is similar in its design to Kiwi touch Rugby where there is a bare minimum of contact, the game is designed to allow the players to hone their abilities to read the game and learn the basics before they possibly move onto the senior, more physical game

What's needed to make it a reality

we would need footballs for the children to play with, 4 helmets which would be used to simulate actual game time - showing them how greatly reduced their periferal vision is and therefore they learn to become much more aware of theri surroundings and finally the belts/ flag kit which is used within the game

  • Avatar Helen 12:08, 05 October 2007 Hey this sounds like a fantastic idea, especially with the nfl game coming up at wembley, I think the kids would really go for it. I know quite a few people involved in the game so might be able to source some equipment for you, I'll look into it and let Kerry know. Report Abuse
  • Avatar Cox1990 14:21, 24 October 2007 Hey Nikk, I think this is a cool. I'd be happy to chip in in any way that I can and I know the area pretty well. Its also the kind of thing that you might be able to get some start up funding for. Try UnLtd for a Level 1 award. Also, given that the NFL big guns are looking to promote the game pretty heavily in the UK, you might be able to get the league or a club to sponsor this - it would be just the kind of grassroots stuff they would be looking for.
