What it's all about

This project is to create and run a community based day event opening new volunteering opportunities for UEL students which produces something that is sustainable around the campus as a lasting memory to remind students how they can play a part in volunteering in their local community.

What's needed to make it a reality

Why it was needed

This project is to create and run a community based day event opening new volunteering opportunities for UEL students which produces something that is sustainable around the campus as a lasting memory to remind students how they can play a part in volunteering in their local community.

What's being done

To create a mural using art materials and recycled materials from the local area promoting a “green” lifestyle which will be displayed on the Docklands Campus on one of the outside walls of the AVA. The mural will be constructed of hardboard plywood panels (1metre x 50cm). These panels will be attached together to form a mural that is either (15m x 1m) or (7m x 7m) depending on the dynamics of the space that it will be displayed on. They will be primed before use and sealed and varnished after use.

How it started

I am looking for students with an artistic flair to supervise the children in making a panel of this mural. Please email studvol@uel.ac.uk for more information

  • Avatar wichitika 15:07, 26 October 2007 Great idea Joey. Art helps us to dream. I think all universities should have mural spaces for students to express their views and social ideals. It would help us focus on both the creativity and the opportunity we have to make many things more beautiful than they are now. Report Abuse
  • Avatar g!by 16:29, 08 November 2007 Young timebank ran a project called 'big arts week' quite similar to this involving children in schools which amounted an exhibition a the end with all of the art work. It was a great oppurtunity for an art student to volunteer to help the children and set them various projects. I think this could be recreated using your idea of green materials. 'sustainable arts week' haha. it would help to teach them alot about what action needs to be taken and recycling in their own community. tell me to stop if it sounds stupid.
ps. that girl in the picture is so sweet and she looks like she is painting with mustard.

I was just wondering what progress you've made with your project, as it's agreat idea.

Keep us updated as I bet a few people are interested to find out how it's going and how they can get involved with this, or similar, projects.
