What it's all about

I would like to organise a post Diwali party for elderly residents in my local area (Ilford/Redbridge).
This would include dinner and some entertainment (a singer or band).

Diwali is a positive festival, a time when one hopes for wealth, happiness and good health, and in line with this, I would like to invite a speaker to talk about specific health issues affecting the Asian community. Often elderly people from this group are not aware of the specific health issues affecting them and thus what they can do to better their own health.

I would hope to organise a transport medium for those with difficulties getting to the venue.

I would aim to advertise through local community group newsletters.

I hope that by incorporating a party atmosphere, I shall be able to provide an enjoyable evening for the elderly and at the same time empower and encourage them to take control of their own health.

What's needed to make it a reality

May need a small contribution towards printing costs.

The financial backing!

This is a fantastic idea and it?s going to be a great way of promoting awareness of health issues as well as bringing the community together and having fun. As you know, this is a specific project running at UCL and another 14 unis across the country. As your Junction49 Uni staff member, I can give you training and support to develop your idea. Drop me an email to junction49@ucl.ac.uk and we can arrange a meeting asap to discuss your idea more fully. As you are a UCL student you can get access to up to £750 to fund your idea. You do not have to join the Innovations Programme as well.
