Why it was needed
To raise awareness of the suffering in Darfur and to pay some respect to the loss of 200-400 thousand lives in Darfur since 2003 when the bulk of the atrocities started taking place.
To show to the Darfuris of Nottingham that the people of Nottingham know about what happened to their loved ones in their land and for the Darfuris of Nottingham to know that the people of Nottingham will stand with them in solidarity until the end of their troubles.
What's being done
Those who took part simply walked together with Darfuris of Nottingham for an hour or so, then they listened to speakers which included Elvy Manun'Ebo the Aegis Students Campaigns Officer, Samuel Boarer Aegis Students International Co-Ordinator, John Heppel MP for Nottingham East and Central, Ali Mohamed spoke on behalf of Nottingham Darfur Community, Khater Muhamed Secretary General of Darfur Union UK & Ireland.
The event concluded with a Candle lit vigil.
How it started
The participants met at 3pm outside Nottingham castle "the Robin Hood statue", quickly by 3:15 there was roughly 50 people.
More
A special thank you and a few mentions to Catie Smith, Time Bank, West Bridgford school, NTU Aegis Society, Aegis Trust and Aegis Students www.aegisstudents.org.
The next Walk4Darfur maybe in early February in Leeds so look out for this.
For anybody doing similar projects i would advise you to train your stewards or team leaders more, find better ways too light candles, for filming make sure you get a wide angle which shows the number or attendees, give your self plenty of time to plan everything, prepare for the worst and hope for the best.
