What it's all about
1449AM URB is the Student radio station for the University of Bath. We are currently preparing for some work experience sessions with local secondary school pupils that are interested in how radio works.
Usually in July, our studios are opened up for local students to visit on Work experience. We are hoping to run other sessions with local students throughout the year, this would require some additional studio facilities available.
What's needed to make it a reality
In starting our preparations for the training sessions, we do have alot of facilities already, but we are realising that there are a number of things that we are lacking to make this a more beneficial session for students.
We are hoping to make these sessions a regular feature of our activities, working with a greater amount of schools in a wider area as the project progresses. We feel that future sessions would benefit from:
Equipment: A laptop which would allow us to install studio software to be used in a remote location - this would be part funded by URB and part by grant money as this has other uses for the station.
CDs (to supply students with a recording of their work)
Money for transport (It would be nice to visit the School to see the set up the pupils currently have in their own radio station)
Handouts/a book of notes (so that they can take away materials relating to radio in a booklet that they can look at in their own time)
Comments
Just finished the second workshop session with our first 'guinea pigs', the boys from Culverhay School!
We got them to fiddle around with making production for radio shows and it sounds really really good!
They are still getting to grips with our studio equipment so it might be too soon to get them trying a show next week - but we'll see how it goes! Will let you all know how it goes next week.
Hopefully get some pics up here soon of the session!
Tim
We're going round to their radio set up come Feb time.
If there are any schools/youth groups who like what they see/hear from this first ever workshop with culverhay boys school, don't hesitate to get in touch!
I'll put some photos up here soon, so check them out!
