DJ49 - Student DJ Battle
12 March 2009Aha! The first blog for Junction49 @ DMU! Over the next few weeks I will be adding more posts with information on how projects have been going so far this academic year...
First up: DJ49 the second volunteer taster session held this through Junction49 @ DMU. After our massively successful ‘Build a Bird Box’ Taster day with well over 50 volunteers involved, I thought we’d go for something completely different – a student DJ battle!
The DJ49 student battle was held on Friday 27th February as part of a series of events held throughout National Student Volunteering week at DMU. The competition involved 7 student volunteer competitors, 2 volunteer judges and 6 volunteers helping with collecting donations and money on the door.
We kicked off the night with a film showing from Youth Music the UK’s largest children’s music charity, set up in 1999 to promote and support music making opportunities and to provide advice to children from birth - 18 with the least access, including some of the UK’s most disadvantaged young people. All proceeds from the event were donated to the charity. Then the competition got underway with each competitor having 15 minutes to impress the crowd and judges with their skills on the turntables. The grand finale to the night was from judge and Pedestrian Arts DJ Tutor DJ Angelo who gave the crowd a ten minute showcase.
The event raised £70 for Youth Music – a massive thank you to all student volunteers involved.
